Free Repair of Appliances Damaged by Typhoon and Heavy Rain... Ministry of the Interior and Safety Signs Agreement with Samsung, LG, and Winia Dimchae
Joint Free Repair Team of Three Companies Provides Free Repairs
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] If large-scale damage occurs due to natural disasters such as typhoons and heavy rain this summer, and home appliances are damaged or broken due to flooding or burial, free repairs can be received from a joint free repair team of three home appliance companies.
On the 6th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and Winia Dimchae to activate free repair support for home appliances in the event of natural disaster damage.
Until now, when damage occurred due to natural disasters such as typhoons and heavy rain in summer, free inspections and repairs were individually supported by each home appliance manufacturer. However, since the standards and regions for free inspection and repair support differed, support availability varied by region, and as each company selected separate locations for free inspection and repair, citizens who suffered damage to home appliances from various manufacturers had the inconvenience of having to visit each manufacturer’s designated location one by one.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety resolved these inconveniences by holding three rounds of meetings with the home appliance industry, and from this year, will provide swift and extensive support to citizens whose livelihoods have been destroyed by natural disasters. Citizens whose home appliances have been damaged by natural disasters can inquire at local governments or manufacturer service centers to receive guidance on the operation of the joint free repair team.
Inspection and repair of damaged home appliances are basically free of charge, but some key parts will be charged (50?100% of parts cost). For large home appliances, service staff will visit the affected homes to perform repairs, and for small home appliances, affected residents can bring their products to the joint free repair team set up near the affected area. The operation of the joint free repair team by the three home appliance companies will strengthen support for those affected by natural disasters and is expected to eliminate the inconvenience of having to visit separate service centers depending on the type of home appliance.

Kim Hee-gyeom, Director of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, “Although the rainy season started later than usual this summer, there are concerns about large-scale housing flood damage if extreme weather events occur, as with last summer’s longest rainy season. I hope that the free repair of home appliances under this MOU will provide some support to those who have lost their livelihoods due to natural disasters.”
