[Asia Economy Reporter Junhyung Lee] A '90s-born duo' has been elected to the People Power Party's spokesperson team.
On the afternoon of the 5th, Im Seungho and Yang Junwoo took first and second place respectively in the final round of the People Power Party spokesperson selection debate battle, "I am the National Representative." This is seen as a repeat of the generational rebellion sparked by Lee Jun-seok, the party leader who made history as the first '30-something party leader' in a conservative party and initiated the party's first open spokesperson selection.
Im, 28 years old this year, was selected as a youth deputy spokesperson through a public audition under the leadership of Hwang Kyo-ahn in 2019. He also served as the youth spokesperson for the Bareun Party. Im stated, "The evaluation of Lee Jun-seok's political experiment will depend on how the spokesperson team presents itself."
Yang, a 27-year-old job seeker, gained attention in April when he climbed onto the campaign vehicle of Oh Se-hoon's Seoul mayoral by-election campaign. Yang said, "Just a few days ago, I was a job seeker playing games and throwing away food waste at home, and now I have become the spokesperson for the main opposition party. I will take to heart the meaning of contributing to regime change."
Former announcer Kim Yeonju and lawyer Shin Inkyu, who placed third and fourth respectively, will serve as full-time deputy spokespersons for the next six months.
The final was broadcast live on TV Chosun and the party's YouTube channel "OreunSoriTV." According to the People Power Party, a total of 120,000 viewers participated in the text message voting.
