According to the Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju on the 5th, A (17), a second-year high school student, was found dead in a mountain near Eodeungsan in Gwangsan-gu at 11:19 a.m. on the 29th of last month.
The police judged that there were no signs of crime, such as no significant external injuries on A’s body when he was found, and presumed that he took his own life.
However, on the 1st, the bereaved family claimed that A was a victim of school violence and submitted related evidence to the police, requesting a reinvestigation.
A’s mobile phone, submitted by the family, reportedly contained a video that seemed to show A being bullied by classmates.
The video is presumed to have been recorded by someone appearing to be a classmate, showing a group of students deliberately playing a prank that caused A to faint.
Also, in a will left by A, there was content expressing gratitude to some friends for stopping severe pranks. It was also found that there were considerable notes related to academic stress.
The police, following the family’s request for reinvestigation, transferred the case from the existing Criminal Division to the Women and Youth Division to ascertain facts related to school violence.
The police plan to investigate school officials and students suspected of being perpetrators, and after legal review, decide whether to indict those involved.
