Busan Mayor Standing in Daegu City Auditorium … What the Daegu-Busan Metropolitan Mayors' 'Special Lecture Exchange' Aims For
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Daegu and Busan, the metropolitan cities representing the Yeongnam region, exchanged special lectures by their respective heads of government.
Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun gave a special lecture at the Daegu City auditorium on the 5th.
On the 5th at 9 a.m., Daegu held its July regular assembly in the main auditorium of the city hall annex and invited Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun to give a lecture to strengthen communication and cooperation between Daegu and Busan amid the concentration in the metropolitan area.
Earlier, Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin gave a special lecture titled "Opening a New Future through Win-Win and Cooperation between Busan and Daegu" on April 22 at Busan City Hall, invited by the Busan Future Innovation Committee.
This was the first time a Busan mayor gave a special lecture in front of Daegu public officials.
Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun began by saying, "Mayor Kwon Young-jin and I have looked in the same direction, dreamed the same dream, and lived with the same values for 40 years, and we have worked together for the development of the Republic of Korea and democracy."
Mayor Park gave a lecture under the theme of "The Future of Korea Driven by Regions through National Balanced Development and Win-Win Cooperation."
In his lecture, he mentioned "innovation capacity," which can be described as the ability to build a new urban economy, and emphasized revitalizing university-centered industry-academia cooperation bases and nurturing talent to enhance innovation capacity.
He stated that national balanced development is more important than the concentration solely in the metropolitan area to secure Korea's future competitiveness.
He also said that it is necessary to establish an industrial strategy (Green Smart) to respond to climate change and pledged to strive to make the 2030 Busan World Expo not only an event for Busan but also for the Yeongnam region and, further, the entire Southern Economic Community.
Park Hyung-jun, a former professor, was elected Busan mayor in the by-election on April 7 and has been actively working to consolidate hosting capabilities, including a recent trip to Paris to submit the application for hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo.
