Haenam-gun Expands One Cremator at Namdo Regional Memorial Park
From Next Month, Makeup Sessions Expanded from 5 to 6 Times
[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] The Namdo Regional Memorial Park, jointly operated by Haenam, Wando, and Jindo counties, will expand its cremation furnace by one unit and begin operation from next month.
According to Haenam County on the 5th, due to the rapid increase in cremation demand, construction to add one cremation furnace began in February and was completed last month. After trial operation until the end of July, it is scheduled to be fully operational from the 1st of next month.
Haenam County proactively secured national funding in response to the increased use of the Namdo Regional Memorial Park, securing 250 million KRW in national funds and investing a total of 530 million KRW to expand the cremation furnace. With the expansion, the crematorium will increase its daily operations from 5 to 6 times.
Additionally, the Namdo Regional Memorial Park has adjusted the cremation reservation period for out-of-area users from one day in advance to three sessions starting five days in advance, sufficiently preparing for demand from neighboring counties such as Gangjin, Jangheung, and Yeongam.

Located in Hwangsan-myeon, Haenam County, the Namdo Regional Memorial Park was built on approximately 80,000㎡ of land with a total project cost of 19.5 billion KRW. It is equipped with four cremation furnaces, two columbarium buildings named Dongbaekdang and Maehwadang, a natural burial ground, and a Yutaek Hill. Since its opening in April 2019, it has conducted 5,682 cremations, enshrined 1,049 urns, and accommodated 891 natural burials (including Yutaek Hill).
