Park Ju-min "Yoon Seok-yeol, Suspected Influence on Mother-in-law Investigation... Trying to Verify"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Park Jumin, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated that he intends to verify whether former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol exerted influence over his mother-in-law's case. As a lawyer, he serves as the ruling party's secretary on the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee.
On the 5th, Park appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and claimed, "It is very suspicious that the mother-in-law was not even booked during the first investigation. Looking at the recently released court ruling, it seems impossible for such a thing to happen, yet it did."
He continued, "There is a need to address the suspicions circulating about the background of this incident, including whether former Prosecutor General Yoon had influence within the prosecution at that time."
When the host asked, "Who was the prosecutor in charge of directing the police investigation at the time? Should we examine the relationship between the prosecutor and former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol through such channels?" Park replied, "Those aspects also need to be looked into. The ruling came out late last week, and we plan to verify those details gradually."
When the host mentioned, "Because a letter of exemption from responsibility was signed, there was no proper summons or investigation, and the case was dismissed," Park responded, "Actually, that is strange. After reading the court ruling, there are numerous detailed circumstances that cannot be overlooked. The letter of exemption itself does not automatically prevent criminal liability."
He added, "Besides that, there were numerous detailed indications of violations of medical law and the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes. It was stated that the medical foundation was involved in its establishment, maintenance, operation, and expansion."
However, Park said, "I cannot definitively say whether (former Prosecutor General Yoon) had influence or not. We need to examine what kind of influence he actually had within the prosecution and what networking he maintained."
Regarding former Prosecutor General Yoon's stance that "no one is exempt from the application of the law," Park criticized, "It was an explanation focused only on drawing a line. However, from the perspective of ordinary citizens, it was a very insufficient explanation."

Park also said, "I want to offer advice to the People Power Party. Recruiting a candidate with very high approval ratings without proper verification or treating them as the only alternative for the party may not be good for the People Power Party either."
