COVID-19 Confirmed Cases Reach 616 by 6 PM... 700s Expected
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] Despite the holiday, new COVID-19 cases continue to emerge across the country, raising concerns that daily cases will remain in the 700s.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments on the 4th, from midnight to 6 p.m., a total of 616 new COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed nationwide. This is 31 more than the 585 cases recorded at the same time the previous day. Usually, the number of tests significantly decreases on weekends and holidays, leading to a drop in confirmed cases, but this week, an unusually high number of cases have been reported.
Of the new cases, 509 (82.6%) were from the metropolitan area, and 107 (17.4%) were from non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, the cases were recorded as follows: Seoul 287, Gyeonggi 200, Busan 25, Incheon 22, Gyeongnam 17, Daejeon and Gyeongbuk 13 each, Chungnam 7, Gwangju, Gangwon, and Jeju 6 each, Jeonnam 5, Daegu 4, Chungbuk and Jeonbuk 2 each, and Ulsan 1.
The number of new cases to be announced at midnight on the 5th, when the tally closes, is expected to exceed 700 again, following the previous day. The nationwide new cases recorded the day before were 743.
