Suncheon-si Secures 2 Billion KRW in Special Grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for the First Half of the Year
Expecting Momentum in Promoting Local Issues and Citizen Disaster Safety Projects
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Jeonna Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 2nd that it secured 2 billion KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for five projects in the first half of the year.
Special grants refer to funds allocated by the central government to local governments as part of local allocation tax to balance financial capabilities, with usage restricted for specific purposes.
With the acquisition of this special grant, the city will be able to reduce its financial burden while gaining momentum for resident-demanded projects and disaster safety-related initiatives.
The special grant projects to be promoted by the city include ▲Jangan Village road construction project in Songgwang-myeon (300 million KRW) ▲Installation of dust and noise blocking devices on the pedestrian path of Bonghwa Tunnel (400 million KRW) ▲Renovation of the Senior Welfare Center in Oeseo-myeon (300 million KRW) ▲Facility improvement project for Suncheonman Ecovillage Youth Hostel (500 million KRW) ▲Environmental maintenance projects for the city administrative welfare center and community centers (500 million KRW).

Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon said, “This special grant has turned on a green light for promoting local issues and safety-related projects to make Suncheon convenient and safe for citizens,” adding, “To ease the city’s financial burden amid the difficulties caused by COVID-19, we will actively pursue visits and explanations to central government ministries and the National Assembly to secure national funds, and establish a close cooperative system with local National Assembly members So Byung-chul and Seo Dong-yong.”
