September Overseas Talent Recruitment 'BC Tour' Conducted
'LG Chem Tech Conference' Held Domestically on the 1st
Energetic Atmosphere with Life Advice, Management Philosophy, and Workplace Questions
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Shin Hak-cheol, Vice Chairman of LG Chem, will visit the United States for the first time in two years to recruit master's and doctoral talents in the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) business sector. This is to proactively hire outstanding R&D personnel for new businesses such as biodegradable plastic materials and battery materials.
According to LG Chem on the 2nd, Vice Chairman Shin will visit New Jersey, USA, in September with key executives to conduct the overseas talent recruitment event called the "Business & Campus Tour (BC Tour)." The BC Tour is a talent acquisition activity that conducts on-site interviews and other events targeting local outstanding talents in conjunction with business leaders' overseas trips. It has been held regularly every year in major regions such as the United States and Europe but was temporarily suspended last year due to COVID-19.
Prior to this, on the 1st, Vice Chairman Shin hosted the "LG Chem Tech Conference" at the InterContinental COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, inviting 45 master's and doctoral R&D talents from domestic universities and research institutes. The LG Chem Tech Conference is a recruitment event where key executives have directly explained LG Chem's innovative technology status and vision to outstanding R&D talents since 2012. At this event, no recruitment procedures are conducted; instead, 30 to 50 majors related to LG Chem's new businesses are invited annually to introduce the company and exchange information.
On this day, Vice Chairman Shin said, "The climate crisis caused by global warming threatens not only companies but also the survival of humanity," adding, "Innovative technology is essential to overcome this crisis." He continued, "For companies creating eco-friendly technologies and business models that have never existed before, a huge market like a blue ocean will open," emphasizing, "R&D talents in ESG technology fields like you will be the main players."
This year, unlike previous years, the atmosphere was reportedly heated, with participants asking personal questions to CEOs rather than showing interest in the company. An LG Chem official explained, "The atmosphere was that they already knew well about LG Chem's R&D technology and vision, and they wanted to hear advice on social experience from industry seniors like Vice Chairman Shin."
In fact, Vice Chairman Shin was asked by one attendee, "What insights do you have when making numerous decisions?" He replied, "A leader's judgment is very important," adding, "I secure the right perspective through knowledge, intellectual experience, and business management ability, and make decisions based on that."
