'From Childcare to Elderly Care' Jeonnam Social Service Center Opens
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The ‘Jeollanam-do Social Service Institute,’ which provides integrated care services from childcare to nursing care, was launched on the 30th.
Jeonnam Province announced that it held the opening ceremony of the Jeollanam-do Social Service Institute with the attendance of Governor Kim Young-rok, Minister of Health and Welfare Kwon Deok-cheol, National Assembly member Yoon Jae-gap, Chairman of the Community Chest of Korea Jo Heung-sik, as well as provincial council members and heads of social organizations.
The opening ceremony proceeded in the following order: a pre-ceremony performance by the band of graduates from the Creative School of the Jeonnam Welfare Foundation, the predecessor of the Social Service Institute; opening remarks by the institute’s director; encouragement speech by the governor; congratulatory speeches by the Minister of Health and Welfare and the National Assembly member; donation ceremony of the Happiness Communication Bus; presentation of the Social Service Institute flag; and unveiling of the signboard.
Many residents participated in real-time through the online live broadcast ‘Euddeum Jeonnam Tube,’ adding significance to the opening ceremony.
The Jeonnam Social Service Institute is a public interest corporation established to provide public social services led by the metropolitan local government, which had previously relied on private consignment for welfare services, and to offer good jobs to workers. Jeonnam Province will operate it as the 11th in the nation.
The province plans to provide high-quality services through the Social Service Institute and directly employ workers to ensure job stability.
Measures to improve the quality and capacity of private service institutions will also be prepared.
The Jeonnam Social Service Institute will directly operate some national and public social welfare facilities and establish a comprehensive home care center to provide integrated services such as long-term care, support for activities of persons with disabilities, and elderly care.
The comprehensive home care center plans to prioritize support for underserved areas such as islands and remote regions, as well as areas with mismatched service demand and supply, to ensure all residents receive equitable services.
Governor Kim said, “The most important role of the Jeonnam Social Service Institute is to create good jobs for workers in the welfare sector,” adding, “Please strive to provide meticulous welfare services to residents who need care due to the increasing elderly population and dual-income households.”
