He plans to promote the realization of 'Gwangjae Coin' in compliance with current laws through consultations with the National Election Commission.
On the 30th, Lee stated, "We will open a new horizon for election campaigns by utilizing blockchain technology." The plan is to issue 'Gwangjae Coin' during the main election to raise campaign funds as virtual assets and then purchase and liquidate all of them after the election.
In a Q&A session with the media immediately after the press conference, Lee said, "Issuing non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in election campaigns is an attempt to expand South Korea's virtual world," adding, "It is an effort to follow international rules similar to those in the U.S. or Singapore in the virtual world and virtual assets, and I hope it is understood as a process where politicians overcome regulations."
Lee revealed that the idea for issuing NFTs was inspired by former President Roh Moo-hyun's introduction of the 'Hope Piggy Bank' during the 2002 presidential election campaign.
