[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Former Minister of Justice and Democratic Party presidential candidate Chu Mi-ae stated on the 30th that she "does not consider" unification. She emphasized, "Restoring the spirit of the Democratic Party is more important than anything else," adding, "The primary election should focus public sentiment on the candidate who comes out with proper reforms and prescriptions on how to complete the Candlelight Revolution."

This clearly indicated her refusal to join the unification suggested by former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun and Representative Lee Kwang-jae on the 28th.
A representative from former Minister Chu's camp stated, "We believe unification is inappropriate," and added, "It is better to highlight each candidate's strengths and weaknesses and make it a festive occasion together."
Former Minister Chu's confidence in drawing a line against unification is also reflected in recent poll results.
According to a survey conducted by polling agency Jowon C&I on behalf of Straight News from the 26th to the 28th, targeting 1,001 men and women aged 18 and over, regarding the 'Suitability of Democratic Party presidential candidates' (with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level), former Minister Chu ranked third with a support rate of 10.1%, following Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung (34.3%) and former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon (14.7%).
