COVID-19 New Cases Near 600... First Dose Vaccination Rate 29.8% of Population (Update)
Half of New Imported COVID-19 Cases Arrive from Indonesia
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea has approached the 600 mark.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 29th at midnight that 395 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed domestically, bringing the total to 156,167.
Of these, 360 cases were domestic transmissions and 35 were imported cases.
By region, Seoul reported 201 cases, Gyeonggi 228 cases, and Incheon 17 cases, totaling 446 cases in the metropolitan area.
In non-metropolitan areas, cases were reported as follows: Daejeon 25, Ulsan and Gyeongnam 13, Chungnam 11, Gangwon 8, Chungbuk and Jeonbuk 7, Busan, Daegu, and Jeju 6, Gyeongbuk 5, Sejong 3, and Gwangju and Jeonnam 2, with confirmed cases nationwide.
Among the 35 imported cases, 16 were identified during quarantine, and the remaining 19 were confirmed within the local community. Of these, 24 were Korean nationals and 11 were foreigners.
Notably, 18 people arriving from Indonesia tested positive, accounting for half of the imported cases. Among them, 16 were Korean nationals and 2 were foreigners.
The number of critically ill patients is 152. The death toll increased by 2 the previous day, bringing the total deaths to 2,017, with a fatality rate of 1.29%.
The number of newly released from isolation increased by 402, totaling 147,077.
The number of suspected cases tested was 34,812, and 36,758 tests were conducted at temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, identifying 85 confirmed cases. In non-metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 5,178 tests were conducted, finding 9 confirmed cases, with a total of 76,748 tests conducted nationwide.
According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, 136,684 people received COVID-19 vaccinations the previous day.
There were 12,703 new first-dose vaccinations, bringing the total number of people who have received the first dose to 15,304,120. The first-dose vaccination rate relative to the population is 29.8%.
There were 112,722 new second-dose vaccinations, with a total of 4,758,295 people having completed the vaccination. The completion rate relative to the population is 9.3%.

Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum stated, "From July, those who have received the first dose of the vaccine can remove their masks outdoors in quiet places, but if variant viruses spread, mask-wearing will have to be mandatory. I urge everyone to feel a sense of crisis and responsibility and to implement extraordinary quarantine measures starting early July."
