"Representative of Ki Sung-yueng's Lawyer Repeatedly Apologizes with a Forgiving Attitude... Releases Recorded Conversation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The victim who alleged that Ki Sung-yong (32, FC Seoul) sexually assaulted them during elementary school has refuted the claim made by Ki’s former lawyer that the victim’s side is engaging in media manipulation.
On the morning of the 29th, victim’s attorney Park Ji-hoon (Law Firm Hyun) stated in a press release, "Attorney Song Sang-yeop (Law Firm Seopyeong) suddenly came around 2 p.m. on the 17th, knelt down, and repeatedly begged for forgiveness, saying 'I crossed the line, please forgive me, I apologize' no less than 57 times," adding, "He even proposed some sort of deal, saying 'I will do whatever I can for the victims(?).'"
He continued, "As public opinion turned against him, Attorney Song is once again engaging in despicable media manipulation," and said, "We are releasing a recording of the conversation with Attorney Song. The recording clearly captures Song’s utterly servile behavior, but we could not help but disclose it to correct the distorted facts."
Furthermore, he added, "We sincerely hope that Ki’s side will stop this disgraceful media play and sincerely cooperate with the investigation by the authorities," emphasizing, "Judgments are not made by public opinion but by judicial institutions."
Earlier, on the 22nd, Attorney Song, who was legally representing Ki, issued a press release explaining his resignation, stating, "Due to my health deteriorating to the point where my fasting blood sugar level exceeded 200, I judged that it would be difficult to proceed smoothly with representing player Ki Sung-yong, and thus made this decision," and added, "The reason I distributed the press release after stepping down from the case was because I felt the need to address the unscrupulous media manipulation by Attorney Park, who represents the opposing side."
He also said, "Before resigning, I met directly with Attorney Park, with whom I had been in dispute," and explained, "Although heated exchanges occurred during the litigation process where facts and evidence must be confronted, I thought there was no need to hold grudges even after my resignation, so I said something along the lines of 'If there was any resentment, I am sorry. I hope we can move on. Please let go of any hard feelings.'"

He then claimed, "Right after the meeting, an article marked 'Exclusive' appeared on the internet," and argued, "According to the article, Attorney Park said in a phone call with the reporter that 'Ki Sung-yong’s lawyer said sorry and admitted fault.' The context was cut off, and it was a clever media play that left readers with the mistaken impression that the lawyer resigned because Ki had some major weakness."
