View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] On the 28th, Choi, the mother-in-law of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, and his wife Kim Geon-hee claimed that the media reports suggesting their involvement in the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation suspicion case are "politically motivated suppression investigations targeting specific individuals."
Choi's legal representative, lawyer Son Kyung-sik, released a statement on the same day, saying, "CBS No Cut News reported as if evidence was found that Choi Eun-soon and Kim Geon-hee conspired in stock manipulation, but this is clearly not true."
Lawyer Son stated, "The suspicion regarding Kim Geon-hee's stock transactions was raised by some media last year and was clearly explained during the media coverage and the Prosecutor General's confirmation hearing. Repeating these claims despite the fact that no preferential treatment was found is judged to be politically motivated false information."
He continued, "The entire article is factually incorrect," pointing out, "Over-the-counter trading is a very common transaction in all listed companies and does not imply any preferential treatment." Regarding this, Lawyer Son added, "Since no evidence was found for Choi's stock manipulation charges, they are now forcibly linking Kim's normal stock trading to stock manipulation, which does not fit the situation at all," and added, "The financial authorities concluded that there was no stock manipulation suspicion, and the police also closed the investigation."

Lawyer Son also said, "After the investigation into former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Anti-Corruption Investigation Division (then led by Chief Prosecutor Lee Sung-yoon) had already closed the case, but it has been reopened and reinvestigated for over a year and three months," and added, "As former Prosecutor General Yoon's political declaration approaches, a specific media outlet receiving and reporting information that appears to come from within the investigation team can only raise suspicions about its political intent."
