[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Kim Du-gwan, a ruling party presidential candidate, met with young people in the Busan area to discuss methods for national balanced development and argued that "the employment quota in public institutions should be increased to hire more students from regional universities."
According to Kim’s office on the 28th, Kim held a meeting with young people from Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam at KT&G Sangsangmadang in Busan on the 26th. This meeting was arranged at the request of the 'Busan Balanced Development Youth Research Group,' composed of youth supporters of the Presidential Committee on National Balanced Development residing in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam.
During the approximately one-and-a-half-hour meeting, the youth raised various questions related to balanced development, including drastic measures to revitalize regional areas, balanced development plans for the nationwide railway network including Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, the progress of the Southeast Mega City, and the gap between metropolitan universities and regional universities.
Kim expressed a strong intention to actively promote the Southeast Mega City and balanced railway network development. As a measure to prevent the crisis of regional universities, he proposed employment quotas for graduates from regional universities in public institutions.
Kim said, "I am truly grateful that young people showed interest in balanced development and organized this meeting, and I hope they will continue to maintain their interest."
