View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Ju-hyung] Former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae, who has officially declared her candidacy for the presidential election, continues to criticize former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol. Chu said of Yoon, "He sacrificed prosecutorial power for his own ambition," and argued, "The Prosecutor General, who holds public authority entrusted to protect the people, should not covet the presidency."
On the afternoon of the 25th, Chu appeared on SBS's 'Joo Young-jin's News Briefing' and said, "The president asked him to correct prosecutorial power, but the gap has widened."
She added, "As a minister, I directed investigations and filed disciplinary requests based on inspection results precisely to correct that."
When asked by the host, "Why do you think there are voices within the Democratic Party opposing your presidential candidacy?" she responded, "I want to ask if they want former Prosecutor General Yoon to proceed straight to the presidential election without any objection and become president."
This is not the first time former Minister Chu has launched criticism at former Prosecutor General Yoon.
On the previous day (the 24th), during an appearance on YTN Radio's 'Lee Dong-hyung's News Face-off,' she said, "I know everything about former Prosecutor General Yoon," and added, "As Minister of Justice, I had to exercise investigative authority twice and even issue disciplinary advice."
She also emphasized that she is the right candidate to face Yoon in the upcoming presidential election. Chu claimed, "Since I officially declared my candidacy, my approval ratings have risen while Yoon's have fallen."
On the 17th, in a radio interview, she stressed, "No one knows Yoon Seok-yeol as well as I do," and called herself "a hawk that catches pheasants."
Meanwhile, on the 23rd, Chu held a press conference in Heyri, Paju, Gyeonggi Province, officially announcing her presidential bid.
She said, "We must create a society that values people and a country that uplifts its people," adding, "If we cannot break structural inequality and unfairness, the 20th-century advanced country model we have pursued cannot resolve polarization and inequality."
She continued, "The Democratic Party must return to the spirit of the Candlelight Movement," emphasizing again, "We must become a country where the people live well, not just a country that is economically prosperous."
