Boryung Pharmaceutical and the Korea Cancer Research Foundation announced on the 25th that Professor Cho was selected as the recipient of the Boryung Cancer Academic Award. The award ceremony will be held at 12 PM on the same day at the Seoul National University Cancer Research Institute. Professor Cho will receive a plaque and a prize of 30 million KRW.
Professor Cho is recognized as a global authority in lung cancer research. Through comprehensive lung cancer research encompassing both preclinical and clinical studies, he has developed treatments beneficial to clinical patients and has been acknowledged for successfully leading innovative new drug research, earning him the Boryung Cancer Academic Award this year.
In the past three years, Professor Cho has published 70 papers in prestigious international journals. He has also served as the principal investigator for clinical research on new drugs based on mutations such as “reactive oxygen species 1 (ROS1) mutation,” “anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) mutation,” and “epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation” in lung cancer, successfully conducting clinical trials. These achievements have been published in leading overseas journals, drawing significant attention from the academic community.
Byoung-Joo Bang, Chairman of the Korea Cancer Research Foundation, said, “Professor Byung-Chul Cho has made remarkable achievements in lung cancer research, including developing innovative new drugs despite the challenging domestic new drug development environment. We hope he will continue to lead the discovery of new drug targets, elucidate resistance mechanisms, and develop effective combination therapies through innovative cancer translational research.”
The Boryung Cancer Academic Award was jointly established by the Korea Cancer Research Foundation and Boryung Pharmaceutical in 2002 to honor scholars who have contributed to cancer eradication and the improvement of public health. It is recognized as the most prestigious award in the field of oncology in Korea. The award is given annually to one recipient selected through a rigorous review of academic achievements over the past three years, targeting doctors or scientists who have worked in oncology research for more than five years.
