Five Schools Selected as Carbon Neutral Focus Schools... Support for Climate Change Textbooks and Classroom Improvements
Support of 150 Million Won Operating Expenses Per School
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The government has selected five "Carbon Neutral Focus Schools" that support environmental education, programs, and school space design.
On the 25th, the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Korea Forest Service, and Korea Meteorological Administration announced the results of the Carbon Neutral Focus School support project selection.
Six ministries received applications from 50 schools and selected five schools. The selected schools are Okseo Elementary School (Ulsan), Sinseong Middle School (Gyeonggi), Yeonmu Girls' Middle School (Chungnam), Songnae High School (Gyeonggi), and Mokpo Hyein Girls' High School (Jeonnam). These schools received excellent evaluations in operating carbon neutral programs and learning communities.
Carbon Neutral Focus Schools will receive support for climate change teaching materials that enable climate crisis and ecological transition education in school life, environmental schools (environmental classrooms), and classroom improvements using domestic wood. The government will provide 150 million KRW for the operation of focus schools.
The related ministries plan to support the overall operation of carbon neutral schools by designating customized promotion activities and participant observers for environmental education space design and curriculum.
For the Carbon Neutral Pilot Schools selected by each metropolitan and provincial office of education (6 schools per region, totaling 102 schools), environmental education content and experiential education materials will also be provided, and the foundation for school education to respond to the climate crisis and realize carbon neutrality will be expanded in connection with the focus schools.
