[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] On the 23rd, SK Ecoplant signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the ‘Circular Economy City Construction Demonstration Project’ with the Climate Change Center, Korea Energy Agency, Korea District Heating Corporation, and GS Power at Novotel Ambassador Seoul Gangnam.
At the signing ceremony, executives including Jaehyun Ahn, President of SK Ecoplant, Youngsook Yoo, Chairman of the Climate Change Center, Changseop Kim, Chairman of the Korea Energy Agency, Changhwa Hwang, President of Korea District Heating Corporation, and Hyoje Cho, CEO of GS Power, attended and agreed to mutually cooperate by emphasizing the sustainable resource recovery of waste and the activation of related projects necessary to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Each company will work to raise public awareness of the entire industry related to ‘waste-to-energy’ and promote institutional improvements and expanded support to revitalize the industry. They will jointly promote projects that convert various waste resources into energy, including a demonstration project that produces clean oil by pyrolyzing waste vinyl and waste plastic, and then produces hydrogen by reforming the clean oil. The main areas of cooperation include △raising public awareness and promoting publicity projects △institutional improvements and expanded support △joint projects to create excellent business cases △deriving feasible and effective policy directions centered on the industry.
SK Ecoplant changed its name last month and is actively promoting eco-friendly and new energy businesses to realize a circular economy, emphasizing the importance of environmental businesses that protect the Earth. Taking this agreement as an opportunity, the company plans to contribute to the activation of the waste-to-energy industry and secure future growth engines related to eco-friendly new businesses by directly participating in demonstration projects.
