Designed on a Digital Basis for 'Gonggong Service'... Provided in the Way Citizens Want
Ministry of the Interior and Safety Holds E-Government Day Ceremony... Announces Mid- to Long-Term Development Directions for E-Government
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] With the acceleration of digital transformation in the public sector, the government's non-face-to-face public services are expanding, and this is expected to further expedite overcoming the COVID-19 crisis and the recovery of daily life.
On the 23rd, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety held the 4th Electronic Government Day ceremony and announced the "Mid- to Long-term Development Direction of Electronic Government." The ministry plans to design public services based on digital platforms from the planning stage by 2025 and provide them in ways that citizens desire.
This plan, under the vision of "A Better World Opened by Digital," will proceed until 2025 and includes detailed tasks and schedules for digital transformation in the public sector, such as intelligent service innovation, strengthening data administration, and expanding digital infrastructure.
Through intelligent service innovation, citizens will be able to freely use public services wherever they want, and the use of MyData and electronic certificates will be expanded. The "Mobile Driver's License," to be introduced by the end of this year, will enable convenient identity verification both online and offline.
Additionally, to strengthen data administration, demand-centered public data will be increasingly opened to create a foundation where anyone can utilize data. The plan includes establishing a cloud-based smart work environment and spreading scientific administration based on field data.
To expand the digital infrastructure, support will be provided for digitally marginalized groups by strengthening an inclusive digital service usage environment, and public-private cooperation will be enhanced to improve digital services. Through strengthened international cooperation and institutional innovation befitting a digital leading country, the "K-type (Korean-style) Digital Service" will be spread worldwide.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety awarded individuals who contributed to the development of electronic government at the Electronic Government Day ceremony. At this event, Professor Kim Kwang-yong of Soongsil University received the Order of Okjo Geunjeong, Jeon Seong-geun, Center Chief of Korea Railroad Corporation, received the Industrial Service Medal, and Choi Gil-nam, Computer Officer of the National Assembly Secretariat, received the Order of Service Merit. An award ceremony was also held for 10 works that won the "Digital Government Service Design Improvement Contest," held from April to June.
At the second part of the event, a talk concert was held where foreign residents in Korea, service developers, and others gave presentations on inclusive digital government services and future digital services, followed by a time to share opinions with attendees.
