[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] On the 22nd, KCC, together with the Korea Future Environment Association, conducted the 'Cool Roof Campaign' on the rooftop of Songam Vocational Rehabilitation Center, a facility for the disabled located in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon. The event was attended by volunteers from the KCC Happiness Sharing Volunteer Group, officials from the Korea Future Environment Association, and Kwak Gi-seong, the director of Songam Vocational Rehabilitation Center.
Songam Vocational Rehabilitation Center is a facility where people with disabilities, vocational training instructors, and social workers conduct vocational training together to help the disabled become independent members of society. KCC decided to create a cool roof so that they can carry out vocational training in a comfortable environment before the summer heatwave begins.
The Cool Roof Campaign involves applying white heat-reflective paint on the building's roof to reduce the accumulation of heat absorbed by the roof, thereby lowering the building's temperature. Since it only requires painting with heat-reflective paint that reflects sunlight and solar heat without major construction, it is considered a simple and effective measure against heatwaves. It also helps mitigate urban heat island effects and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, leading to a nationwide expansion of the campaign.
KCC provided its energy-saving heat-reflective paint product, 'Spotan Sangdo (Energy),' free of charge for this Cool Roof Campaign. Spotan Sangdo (Energy) is certified for heat-reflective performance by the U.S. energy-saving paint certification organization CRRC. It has a higher TSR (Total Solar Reflectance) value compared to regular paints, helping maintain lower indoor temperatures and offering excellent heat-reflective effects that aid in energy savings during summer.
