Namwon-si Surpasses 40% COVID-19 Vaccination Rate
[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk, has surpassed a 40% COVID-19 vaccination rate.
According to the city on the 22nd, as of the 19th, the COVID-19 vaccination rate was 42.96% (34,405 people) for the first dose and 15.28% (12,240 people) for the second dose among the total population.
This is a higher vaccination rate compared to the national average of 28.97% and Jeonbuk's 35.78%, due to active participation in vaccinations by the 60 and older age group who were vaccinated until last week.
The city has recorded a vaccination rate over 40%, higher than the national and Jeonbuk averages, laying the groundwork for herd immunity formation.
To achieve herd immunity, more than 70% (56,060 people) of the total population must complete the first dose.
The public health center currently reports 34,405 people in Namwon have completed the first dose, meaning approximately 21,700 additional vaccinations are needed. It is expected that after mid-September, when first-dose vaccinations for those under 40 have progressed to some extent, a vaccination rate above 70% and herd immunity formation can be anticipated.
The city plans to implement sequential vaccinations by target groups starting next month, following the announcement of the COVID-19 third-quarter vaccination implementation plan (Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, June 17).
In early next month, vaccinations will be administered to unvaccinated individuals aged 60 to 74. From the 19th of next month, Pfizer vaccinations will be given to approximately 980 high school seniors and high school staff, and university entrance exam candidates will also be vaccinated in August.
To expand school attendance in the second semester, from the 26th of next month, Pfizer or Moderna vaccinations will be administered to about 1,400 staff members, including all teachers (kindergarten and daycare included) and care workers.
Regarding vaccinations by age group, those aged 50 to 59, who have a higher risk of severe illness and fatality from COVID-19 infection, will begin vaccination on the 26th of next month.
Specifically, for those in their 50s, individuals aged 55 to 59 will make advance reservations from the 12th to the 17th of next month, those aged 50 to 54 from the 19th to the 24th, and vaccinations will be administered in early August.
The vaccine type has not yet been decided and will be determined based on supply conditions. Those aged 40 and under (18 to 49) are expected to receive vaccinations in order of advance reservations starting mid-August.
