Basis Established for Regional Culture Information System Construction
Enforcement Decree of the Regional Culture Promotion Act to Take Effect from the 23rd
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 21st that the enforcement decree of the 'Regional Culture Promotion Act,' which is based on the establishment of a regional culture information system and the reorganization of regional culture promotion policies, will be enforced starting from the 23rd. This is a follow-up measure to the 2nd Basic Plan for Regional Culture Promotion (2020?2024), announced last February under the title "Inclusive and Innovative Regional Culture."
The regional culture information system, for which operational grounds have been established, is an electronic information system. It gathers regional culture-related facilities, personnel, projects, and other regional culture information scattered across individual regions into one place, standardizes it, and enables joint utilization. An official explained, "It can bridge the cultural information gap occurring between regions and efficiently promote regional culture promotion policies based on timely information." They added, "In this initial construction phase this year, the system will primarily be used to investigate the current status of regional culture, including policies, facilities, personnel, and projects related to regional culture."

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also established grounds to designate dedicated institutions for regional culture promotion and to support budgets. This aims to stably and effectively implement regional culture promotion policies and projects while expanding cultural autonomy, resident participation, and responding to diverse cultural demands. An official stated, "We will create cooperative structures with various regional culture stakeholders and generate synergistic effects through linkage among projects."
