[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) is operating the 'Resident Participatory Budget School Online Education' to provide more residents with opportunities to learn about participatory budgeting.
The Resident Participatory Budget School is an educational program aimed at Dobong-gu residents to provide an understanding of the participatory budgeting system. Since 2020, Dobong-gu has been conducting online education as part of social distancing measures.
The education runs from June 14 to December 31 and is available free of charge to all residents through the Seoul Lifelong Learning Portal and Dobong-gu's official YouTube channel, 'Dobongbong TV'.
When using the Seoul Lifelong Learning Portal, completion of more than 90% of the total learning time is recognized as course completion, and certificates can be issued if needed.
The online education on participatory budgeting consists of two courses totaling 223 minutes: basic education and advanced education. The basic education covers six topics including the introduction and current status of participatory budgeting, while the advanced education covers five topics including domestic and international cases of resident participatory budgeting.
Meanwhile, Dobong-gu's Resident Participatory Budget School Online Education, which started in 2020 as the first among Seoul's autonomous districts, received a special award (education category) in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's participatory budgeting operation evaluation that year, and was included in the Ministry's best practice collection, receiving high praise.
