Jungnang-gu Adds 5 More Shade Shelters for Heatwave Prevention, Operating a Total of 93 Locations
Operation of 128 Heat Relief Centers and Provision of Homeless Shelters, Comprehensive Heatwave Measures to be Implemented Until September
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will implement a comprehensive heatwave countermeasure plan until September, forming and operating a joint TF team for heatwave situation management.
The heatwave measures include installing and operating shade shelters, protecting the homeless, operating cooling centers, protecting elderly living alone and infants, and providing health visits for vulnerable groups to prevent heatwave damage, in response to the expected increase in heatwave days due to rising average summer temperatures.
First, five additional shade shelters will be installed this year, bringing the total to 93 locations, providing residents with spaces to avoid the scorching sun in front of crosswalks.
A total of 128 cooling centers will also be operated. The district has set up cooling centers in 16 community service centers, 102 senior centers, and 6 welfare centers, providing spaces for elderly and other heat-vulnerable residents to escape the heat.
Additionally, four heatwave safety accommodations have been opened to offer elderly residents convenience for nighttime rest and sound sleep away from the heat.
Patrols will be conducted in areas where homeless people may gather, such as subway stations, parks, and public restrooms, providing street counseling for facility admission and emergency rescue, and operating cooling centers for the homeless within homeless self-support facilities.
Protection activities for elderly living alone are also carefully managed. An emergency contact network among related organizations has been established to enable rapid response and rescue services with emergency medical centers, public health centers, and hospitals in case of emergencies.
During the heatwave period, lunchbox and side dish delivery services will be provided, and IoT safety health solution devices will be installed in 430 households of health-vulnerable elderly living alone to monitor their safety in real time.
Furthermore, child protection activities will be conducted based on 210 daycare centers in the area, and a home health care program will be carried out for 3,800 elderly people living alone or requiring health management due to disabilities or chronic diseases, aiming to safeguard the health of district residents during the summer.
