Gimhae City Invests 6.1 Billion KRW to Build New 'Hallim DSC'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City in Gyeongnam announced on the 15th that the construction of Hallim DSC (rice drying and storage facility) by the Gimhae City Nonghyup Joint Business Corporation was selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' ‘2022 High-Quality Rice Distribution Activation Project’.
Hallim DSC began in 1996 as the Hallim Nonghyup Comprehensive Grain Processing Center and has played a pivotal role in Gimhae City's food industry sector for the past 25 years. However, the current facility is experiencing inconvenience due to aging and ground subsidence caused by flooding in 2002.
The city has been promoting the reconstruction of Hallim DSC since 2019 and, after three years of effort, was selected in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' public contest, with only the project budget review remaining.
The new Hallim DSC will be built at 1423 Jangbang-ri, Hallim-myeon, about 200 meters away from Gimhae City's agricultural machinery rental center. With a project cost of approximately 6.1 billion KRW, it will be equipped with a 5,000-ton cold storage facility and the latest drying equipment with a capacity of 10,200 tons.
Construction will begin in September with geological surveys, design, and various permits, and is scheduled to be completed by October next year.
Upon completion, the repeated delays in rice purchase will be resolved, significantly reducing farmers' waiting times. Additionally, farmers will be able to ship Yeonghojinmi rice produced through contract cultivation at any time during the purchase period, which is expected to improve farmers' income.
