Eunpyeong-gu, Creation of Bongsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail
Forest Trail Construction Project to Complete in 2024... Set to Become a Healing Space in Eunpyeong-gu... Plans to Expand Barrier-Free Forest Trails by Connecting with Other Eunpyeong Dullegil Routes Long-Term
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) has created the 24km Eunpyeong Dullegil trail centered around Bukhansan Mountain as part of its forest welfare initiative, receiving much love not only from Eunpyeong-gu residents but also from Seoul citizens.
In particular, the Dullegil trail created on Bongsan (Bongsan Sunrise Trail) features well-established healing forests such as the Hinoki cypress healing forest and the native wild population of Korean dogwood, and offers many viewpoints to admire the spectacular views of Bukhansan’s Jokduribong and Hyangrobong peaks. It serves as an important leisure space for citizens exhausted by COVID-19 and those seeking nearby places to relax.
However, since the Eunpyeong Dullegil is a forest trail built on mountainous terrain, it has been difficult for people with disabilities, the elderly, and citizens using strollers to use it easily. This has raised the need for measures that allow all citizens, including those with limited mobility, to enjoy the mountains without burden.
Accordingly, Eunpyeong-gu is currently promoting the ‘Bongsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail Construction Project,’ which considers ‘barrier-free access’ for the Dullegil trail. The ‘Bongsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail’ is expected to receive a total external budget of 8.9 billion KRW from Seoul City and others, and the project has been progressing in phases since 2020.
The project is scheduled for completion by 2024, with phases 1 and 2 (2.05km) currently underway as of 2021, and upon completion, a total of 7.7km will be established.
In particular, the ‘Bongsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail’ will be linked with Eunpyeong-gu’s pride, the ‘Hinoki Cypress Healing Forest,’ and Hinoki cypress forests will be created at key points along the deck road, making it the only barrier-free forest trail featuring Hinoki cypress forests in Korea.
Furthermore, Eunpyeong-gu plans to expand the barrier-free forest trails continuously in the long term by linking with other courses such as the Aengbongsan course of the Eunpyeong Dullegil.
