[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Korea Electric Wire announced on the 11th that it has signed a contract with Qatar's state-owned Kahramaa for the expansion of the 'Facility-E' transmission system worth a total of 146.3 billion KRW.
Of the total volume, the initial supply amount is worth 27.7 billion KRW, with a subsequent supply of 118.6 billion KRW planned. The exact amount and period for the follow-up supply will be finalized within one year.
Qatar Facility-E is a large-scale desalination combined power plant producing 2,600 MW of electricity and 130 million tons of desalinated water. The total project cost is approximately 3 billion USD (about 3.3 trillion KRW). Korea Electric Wire explained, "We are carrying out a key project to build a new power grid to supply the electricity generated at this power plant throughout Qatar."
They are responsible not only for product supply but also for electrical and civil engineering works and commissioning tests. This includes power grid construction for all transmission levels, including the highest voltage of 400 kV among Qatar's underground cables, as well as 220 kV and 132 kV. The company added that this comprehensively verifies Korea Electric Wire's excellence in ultra-high voltage cable technology and its capability to complete turnkey projects from start to finish and hand them over to the client.
A Korea Electric Wire official evaluated, "Winning the Facility-E project, an important project of the Qatari government, amid fierce competition with global companies from Europe and Japan is a very meaningful achievement."
