[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency (Chief Yoon Byung-doo) is conducting support activities for vaccination of island residents in the Jeonnam region to prevent COVID-19.
According to the West Sea Coast Guard on the 10th, vaccination will begin on 27 islands in three cities and counties in the Jeonnam region, including Jindo Seogeochado, Wando, and Yeosu, from the 14th to the 30th for 17 days. To ensure smooth vaccination activities and enhance the safety of island residents, support such as maritime patrol aircraft and dispatch of coast guard officers will be provided.
Accordingly, the West Sea Coast Guard conducted helicopter shipboard takeoff and landing training near Jindo Gasado waters on the morning of the 10th together with the Navy’s Hansando ship, which is carrying out the vaccinations.
The West Sea Coast Guard and the Navy will also conduct a joint inspection and rehearsal of vaccination with related agencies at Yeongam Daebul Pier on the 11th.
Lee Jae-hyun, Director of Planning and Operations at the West Sea Coast Guard, stated, “As a national agency prioritizing the safety and protection of citizens’ lives, the Coast Guard plans to fully support vaccination activities to overcome COVID-19 early. The Coast Guard will board the vaccination ship to maintain residents’ safety and order, conduct maritime security activities, and transport emergency patients via helicopter.”
Meanwhile, about 630 people are expected to be vaccinated in this round targeting island residents aged 30 and above in the Jeonnam region. The Navy will dock the Hansando ship at major island areas for a 1-night, 2-day schedule to administer vaccinations onboard.
