Seoul City Launches 'Citizen Monitoring Group' for Multi-Level Marketing and Door-to-Door Sales Companies... Monitoring 6,318 Locations by Year-End
Operation of the 'Special Sales Business Private Autonomous Monitoring Team' Composed of 15 Citizens
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Citizens will directly conduct COVID-19 quarantine inspections and on-site monitoring targeting multi-level marketing, door-to-door sales, and other special sales businesses.
On the 10th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced the launch of the ‘Private Autonomous Monitoring Group for Special Sales Businesses,’ consisting of 15 citizens, and stated that inspections will be carried out from June through the end of the year. The inspection targets include a total of 6,319 locations within Seoul.
Since May last year until March this year, Seoul has operated a ‘Private Autonomous Monitoring Group’ covering three areas: unfair trade, special sales businesses, and prepaid installment transactions. As a result, it was decided to intensify inspections and monitoring focused on the ‘special sales business’ sector, which is vulnerable in terms of quarantine and requires support, until December.
The ‘Private Autonomous Monitoring Group’ conducts frequent and surprise visits to special sales businesses such as multi-level marketing, door-to-door sales, and sponsor door-to-door sales to check for violations of quarantine rules and to carry out COVID-19 prevention activities such as delivering administrative orders like gathering bans.
In addition, monitoring related to illegal activities of special sales businesses, verification of their location and actual business operations, as well as whether they have relocated or closed, will also be conducted to help eliminate blind spots in administrative management and supervision.
