Korea-US Expert Group Holds Video Conference...Agrees to Hold Regular Meetings and Create Roadmap for Discussion Topics
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the afternoon of the 9th, the Korea-US expert group on COVID-19 vaccines, including the Blue House and the White House, held its first meeting to discuss major issues such as vaccine production and research and development, and decided to create a roadmap for future consultation tasks.
This meeting, held via video conference, was a follow-up measure to the agreement made at the Korea-US summit to establish the "Korea-US Global Vaccine Partnership" to strengthen joint response capabilities against infectious diseases such as COVID-19.
The Blue House stated on the 10th, "As a follow-up to the Korea-US summit, the two countries held the first meeting of the 'Korea-US Global Vaccine Partnership Expert Group' in the afternoon to discuss vaccine production, expansion plans for raw and subsidiary materials, research and development, and cooperation plans for workforce training, and to agree on future activity plans."
The Blue House explained, "The Korea-US Global Vaccine Partnership Expert Group will be held regularly, and a roadmap for future consultation tasks will be created for systematic discussions." The two countries will operate the Korea-US Global Vaccine Partnership Expert Group going forward, periodically review results, and discuss future operational plans.
Meanwhile, the meeting was attended by 12 people from the US side, including the White House National Security Council (NSC) senior officials such as the Special Presidential Envoy for Global Health Security, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the White House COVID-19 Response Team, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).

From Korea, 13 people participated, including the Secretaries for New Southern Policy and New Northern Policy, Social Policy, Foreign Policy, Industrial Policy, and the Director of Quarantine Planning from the Blue House, as well as government officials. Representatives from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s National Institute of Health also participated.
