Lee Jae-myung: "We Must Provide Proper Answers to the Public's Anger Over Real Estate Speculation"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung expressed his respect for the heartfelt decision of Party Leader Song Young-gil and the Democratic Party leadership, who urged the 12 Democratic Party lawmakers suspected of real estate speculation to leave the party with the spirit of "eupchamma-sok" (making a painful but necessary decision for the greater good).
Governor Lee stated that the public is now demanding the Democratic Party to eradicate real estate speculation, and that this opportunity should be used to enact a special law for investigating real estate speculation and to immediately pass the real estate blind trust system.
On the 9th, through a post titled "We Must Respond to the People's Anger," he said, "I feel sorry for those who were urged to leave the party," and added, "I hope this painful process will be the beginning of revealing the truth."
He continued, "Now it is time for the Democratic Party to take proper action," advising, "To ensure that the decision to expel the 12 Democratic Party lawmakers is not in vain, we must go straight to the essence."
Furthermore, he emphasized, "What the people want is the institutional eradication of the real estate speculation republic," and stated, "We must enact a special law mandating a thorough investigation into real estate speculation by all high-ranking public officials, lawmakers, and their relatives."
He also said, "The High-ranking Public Officials Real Estate Blind Trust Act must be passed immediately to prevent the exploitation of real estate information obtained through public office for private gain," adding, "There should not be a single high-ranking public official or lawmaker in the Republic of Korea who profits from speculation."
In particular, he noted, "Which political forces truly pursue 'real fairness' will be revealed to the public through this process," and urged, "We must look back to three months ago during the LH scandal to recall what we resolved, what the by-election results meant, and what we reflected on two months ago."
