Kim Jong-cheon, Gwacheon Mayor Suspended from Duty... Resident Recall Vote Initiated
[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] The recall vote against Kim Jong-cheon, mayor of Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, was initiated on the 8th, making him the fifth local government head nationwide to face such a vote.
The Gwacheon City Election Commission announced at around 6:20 PM that day the initiation of the recall vote against Mayor Kim, along with the announcement of the voting date, voting proposal, the rights holders, and the summary of the subjects of the vote.
Mayor Kim's duties were suspended on the same day, and Deputy Mayor Kim Jong-gu is acting on his behalf.

In a statement, Mayor Kim said, "Since the government withdrew its housing supply plan for the area around the government office building, the purpose of the recall has disappeared," adding, "As Gwacheon's alternative has been accepted, I will do my best to achieve balanced development throughout the city and resolve issues related to the utilization of the government office's idle land."
