Severe Injury from Falling While Avoiding Dog on Walking Trail... Police Launch Investigation
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] A teenage student was startled by the barking of a dog and ran away, falling down the stairs on a walking trail and sustaining serious injuries, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
According to the police on the 8th, the Western Seoul Police Station received a complaint from the father of the victim, Jang Mo (15), on the 27th of last month, requesting punishment for a woman in her 40s, Ms. A, who owns a Jindo dog, on charges of negligent injury, and has begun an investigation.
On April 11th at around 10:30 p.m., Jang was sitting on a bench on the Baekryeonsan walking trail in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, when he was startled by the barking of a dog and ran away. He slipped on the stairs of the walking trail and tumbled, suffering serious injuries including a cerebral hemorrhage. He was hospitalized in the intensive care unit for more than two weeks, underwent brain surgery, and is currently receiving outpatient treatment. Jang’s father filed a complaint against Ms. A, claiming that the dog owner’s negligence in managing the dog caused the damage.

At the time, the Jindo dog owned by Ms. A was reportedly on a walk wearing a leash and a muzzle. Because it was night and the area near the walking trail was dark, Jang did not see Ms. A’s dog but thought it was barking at him, and while trying to leave the area, the accident occurred.
