Kumho Petrochemical Donates Customized Orthotic Devices to Facilities for People with Disabilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Kumho Petrochemical announced on the 7th that it donated assistive devices worth 68.4 million KRW, including customized wheelchairs for people with severe disabilities, to 20 residential facilities for the disabled located in the metropolitan area.
Since 2008, Kumho Petrochemical has been donating assistive devices such as customized wheelchairs to facilities selected in collaboration with the Seoul Association of Welfare Facilities for the Disabled to improve the convenience of life for people with disabilities. As of this year, the total number of beneficiaries of Kumho Petrochemical’s customized assistive device donation project is 356, and the value of the donated assistive devices amounts to approximately 660 million KRW.
The customized wheelchair is a special wheelchair equipped with an inner (customized posture support device) made of urethane material added to an electric wheelchair. Since the inner is replaced with a new one whenever there is a change in the user’s body, there is a cost burden at the facility level, which Kumho Petrochemical supports by sponsoring the production.
This year, Kumho Petrochemical’s customized assistive device donation project was conducted non-face-to-face again, following the previous year. Previously, executives and employees, including Park Chan-gu, Chairman of Kumho Petrochemical Group, visited facilities for the disabled and directly delivered assistive devices to the recipients, but since last year, due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19, the project has been conducted non-face-to-face.
