500 Days Since the First Domestic COVID-19 Case... "A Time That Showed Resilience"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The vaccination reservation rate for the elderly aged 60 to 74 has surpassed 80%.
Kwon Deok-cheol, First Deputy Head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (Minister of Health and Welfare), stated in the opening remarks of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting on the morning of the 4th, "The reservation rate for seniors aged 60 to 74, which closed yesterday, was recorded at a high 80.6%."
As of midnight on that day, the number of people who received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine was approximately 7.08 million, representing a vaccination rate of 13.8% of the population.
Deputy Head Kwon emphasized, "More than 340,000 people participated in vaccination just yesterday," adding, "The seniors have personally shown their willingness to protect themselves and their precious families from COVID-19 and to willingly participate in moving towards the recovery of daily life."
He said, "We deeply thank everyone who participated in the vaccination, and we urge those who made advance reservations to be sure to receive their vaccinations according to the schedule."
Deputy Head Kwon mentioned, "In June, more than 7 million people are expected to receive vaccinations, and the number of adverse reaction reports is also expected to increase," adding, "The government will respond more promptly and systematically to adverse reaction reports."
First, efforts will be made to expand personnel for responding to adverse reaction reports and epidemiological investigations, and the adverse reaction evaluation system will be improved to promptly review damage investigation cases.
Additionally, measures will be taken to ensure there are no disruptions in the supply of acetaminophen-based antipyretic and analgesic medications taken after vaccination.
Deputy Head Kwon explained, "Together with the Pharmaceutical Association and the Pharmacists Association, we will continuously monitor the supply status, and if supply shortages are anticipated, we will encourage manufacturers to increase production," adding, "There are about 70 approved acetaminophen-based antipyretic and analgesic products domestically, all of which have the same efficacy and effect."
Furthermore, for severe adverse reactions, emergency medical systems will be fully prepared in cooperation with private sectors such as the Medical Association and Hospital Association.
Deputy Head Kwon urged, "The number of new confirmed cases is expected to remain in the 600s for three consecutive days based on domestic occurrences," and warned, "If we become careless in places where recent local infections have occurred, such as entertainment bars, workplaces, restaurants, and gatherings of acquaintances, the number of confirmed cases could surge at any time, so we must not let our guard down regarding quarantine."
He said, "It has been 500 days since the first domestic COVID-19 patient was reported on January 20 last year," adding, "The past 500 days have been difficult for all of us, but they have also been a time to show the resilience of the Republic of Korea."
