The Era of On-Demand Services... Capture the 'Customer' Rather Than the 'Market'
KCCI Business Concert... Emphasizing 'Customer Share' in the Era of Digital Transformation
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] "Now, customers demand On-Demand services that allow them to consume what they want anytime and anywhere, rather than purchasing and owning products."
The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) invited Professor Kim Yong-jin from Sogang University to deliver an online lecture titled "Digital Transformation and Strategies for Creating New Business Opportunities," which was released on the 4th.
Professor Kim stated, "In the past, companies introduced mass production systems to reduce costs and maximize profits, which limited their ability to satisfy individual customer needs. Now, an era has arrived where customers seek out and consume what they want directly, and companies are focusing on digital transformation to meet the diverse and individualized demands of consumers."
Professor Kim defined digital transformation as the process of standardizing and digitizing a company's resources and processes to manage them collectively, enabling real-time responses to consumer needs and ultimately innovating business models through On-Demand services.
He emphasized, "On-Demand services start with questions about what the customer's problem is and what services are needed to solve that problem. Each customer is viewed as a market, and services must be provided at the desired time and place."
He introduced examples of On-Demand services such as the fashion company 'Burberry,' which offers bespoke customized services allowing customers to design their own clothes, and the doll manufacturer 'Birdseeds,' which digitizes children's drawings to create identical stuffed dolls.
Finally, Professor Kim advised, "In the era of digital transformation, corporate competitiveness lies not in market share but in customer share. To achieve this, companies should focus on personalized production methods and shift to business models where consumers utilize products rather than own them."
