Launch Ceremony and Rally of the Jinju Area Organizations and Associations LH Protection Citizen Movement Headquarters
Over 90 Jinju-area organizations and associations, including Jinju Chamber of Commerce and Jinju YMCA, participate
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Recently, the government has proposed an innovation plan for Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) involving a division theory that includes dismantling LH to the extent of creating one holding company with 2 to 3 subsidiaries including LH. This has raised concerns within the Jinju local community.
In response, the Jinju Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Jinju YMCA took the lead to hold the launch ceremony and rally of the 'Gyeongnam Jinju Innovation City (LH) Protection Pan-Citizen Movement Headquarters (hereafter Movement Headquarters)' in front of LH on the 3rd, deciding to actively respond depending on future developments.
The launch ceremony, attended by over 90 Jinju area organizations and associations, expressed the will of all local members through the election of Movement Headquarters executives, declaration of opening, reading of the launch declaration, reading of appeals by sector, and chanting of slogans.
Additionally, Jinju Mayor Cho Gyu-il, City Council Chairman Lee Sang-young, and Gyeongsang National University Vice President Jeong Woo-geon attended to congratulate and support the launch of the Movement Headquarters.
Mayor Cho stated, "LH is a public institution in Gyeongnam Jinju Innovation City, and separating LH undermines the ideology of the innovation city." He raised his voice, saying, "Strengthening ethics and reform within LH is necessary, but citizens oppose a hasty organizational restructuring."
Co-representatives Lee Young-chun and Yoon Hyun-jung said in the launch declaration, "The grand principle of national balanced development must be upheld, and dismantling LH to the extent of division is not a fundamental solution."
They continued, "Prepare a plan to coexist with the region," and expressed, "We hope LH will be reborn as a public institution that meets the expectations of the people." They also declared their determination, saying, "If the government enforces this, we will unite with the residents to fight back and will not hesitate to stage protests in Seoul."
Furthermore, the Movement Headquarters posted a petition titled 'LH Reform and Innovation! Oppose Separation! Demand a Plan for National Balanced Development and Coexistence That Prevents Residents from Being Marginalized or Harmed,' and began full-scale activities to protect Gyeongnam Jinju Innovation City (LH).
