US Tesla to Increase Electric Vehicle Battery Material Imports Worth 1 Trillion Won from Australia

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla announced that it will increase imports of electric vehicle battery raw materials from Australia.
According to local media on the 2nd, Robin Denholm, Tesla's board chair, attended the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) event and decided to import more than 1 billion USD (approximately 1.1135 trillion KRW) worth of Australian electric vehicle battery raw materials annually.
Chairman Denholm explained the reason for expanding imports, saying, "Australian mining companies have a good reputation, excellent expertise, and increasingly preferred because they meet ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) requirements."

With Tesla increasing imports of Australian raw materials, the Australian government expects lithium and nickel export values this year to reach 1 billion AUD (approximately 859.8 billion KRW) and 4 billion AUD (approximately 3.4394 trillion KRW), respectively. Tesla relies heavily on Australia for lithium and nickel, which are mainly used in manufacturing electric vehicle batteries.
