Chairman Chey Tae-won Discusses Job and Labor Issues with Labor Minister Ahn Kyung-duk
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on the 2nd that Chairman Choi Tae-won met with Minister of Employment and Labor Ahn Kyung-duk to discuss recent employment and labor issues.
During the meeting with Minister Ahn Kyung-duk, who visited the Chamber of Commerce building in Jung-gu, Seoul, Chairman Choi said, "Although the threat of COVID-19 remains, fortunately, recent economic indicators show signs of recovery from the pandemic shock," adding, "However, no matter how good the indicators are, it is difficult to feel the improvement unless quality jobs increase."
Chairman Choi also told Minister Ahn, who is from the Presidential Economic, Social and Labor Council (ESLC), "I hope that the social grand compromise scheduled at the ESLC next week will be successful, leading to good dialogue among the labor sector, the business community, and society as a whole."
Minister Ahn urged the business community to make efforts such as expanding new hires to help recover youth employment, and stated that the government will also seek support measures for companies trying to increase jobs despite difficult circumstances.
Minister Ahn emphasized that during the implementation of the recently revised labor law, they will do their best to fully gather labor and management opinions to ensure smooth adaptation at the field level.

Minister Ahn also proposed to the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry to jointly consider voluntary and fundamental changes by companies to promote ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management related to worker safety and other issues.
