Gyeongsang National University Selected as Regional Innovation Leading Research Center for Anti-Aging Bio-Material Cell Factory
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 2nd that Gyeongsang National University was selected as the 'Anti-Aging Biomaterial Cell Factory Regional Innovation Leading Research Center' in the 2021 Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Regional Innovation Leading Research Center Project' competition, securing 10.13 billion KRW in national funding.
The Regional Innovation Leading Research Center Project is a program that establishes and supports leading research centers specialized in regional innovation fields based on basic research.
With this selection, Gyeongsangnam-do has created an opportunity to continuously support the regionally specialized industry in the anti-aging bio sector.
By being finally selected for this project, Gyeongsang National University will receive a total of 14.46 billion KRW, including 10.13 billion KRW in government grants and matching funds from local governments, Gyeongsang National University, and companies, for up to 7 years until February 2028.
This project involves Gyeongsang National University as the core, with participation from the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology and Amicogen.
Three research groups have been formed: Group 1 will conduct research on microbial cell factories, Group 2 on plant cell factories, and Group 3 on the discovery and commercialization of anti-aging bio new materials.
The Anti-Aging Biomaterial Cell Factory Research Center at Gyeongsang National University stated, "The purpose of this project is to expand the growth foundation of regionally specialized bio companies by resolving obstacles to the commercialization of anti-aging biomaterials and establishing an industrialization base linked to companies."

Meanwhile, in 2019, Changwon National University's Extreme Environment Smart Mechanical Parts Design and Manufacturing Innovation Center was also selected as a Regional Innovation Leading Research Center, securing 9.15 billion KRW in national funding over 7 years.
