Seongyun Lee and Kwangbeom Lee Appointed as Additional LKB Chief Attorneys... Defense Team Now Comprises 6 Members
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Lee Sung-yoon, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, who was indicted on charges of exerting external pressure in the investigation of former Vice Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui's illegal travel ban case, has additionally appointed Lee Kwang-beom (62, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 13), CEO and lead attorney of LKB.
According to the legal community on the 2nd, Lee appointed four additional lawyers from LKB, including CEO Lee, the day before. As a result, Lee's defense team now consists of a total of six members, including Kim Ok-min from the law firm KP&Partners and Han Myung-seop from the law firm Hanmi.
Attorney Lee is originally from Jeonnam and passed the 23rd Judicial Examination in 1981. After being appointed as a judge, he served at the Financial District Court, Seoul High Court, Supreme Court Research Judge, Secretary to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and Chief Judge of the Seoul High Court. He retired from the judiciary in 2011 after serving as the Senior Chief Judge of the Seoul Administrative Court and then established LKB.
As a judge, CEO Lee was also a founding member of Uri Beop Yeonguhoe, a progressive judicial association within the court. In 2012, he served as a special prosecutor investigating allegations regarding former President Lee Myung-bak's purchase of a residence site in Naegok-dong.
Last year, he handled the appeal trial defense in the comment manipulation case involving Kim Kyung-soo, Governor of Gyeongnam Province. At one point, he was also considered a candidate for the first Chief of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office. Currently, he represents major defendants such as former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk and former Minister of Environment Kim Eun-kyung.

Lee was indicted on charges of exerting pressure to halt the investigation of former Vice Minister Kim's travel ban case at the Anyang branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office while serving as head of the Anti-Corruption and Strong Crime Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in June 2019.
