[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) opened two public national and public daycare centers on the 1st to strengthen the public nature of childcare and create a safe childcare environment.

In accordance with the mandatory installation of national and public daycare centers in new apartment complexes with more than 500 households, the district signed a free lease agreement with the Yeomni 3 District Reconstruction Maintenance Association in October last year, investing up to 200 million KRW per daycare center for facility remodeling and equipment costs to renovate the centers.

Additionally, in collaboration with the Seoul Design Foundation, the Seoul City Safe Care Daycare Center customized environment design guidelines were applied, completing thorough preparations to create a safe daycare environment that parents can trust.

The two newly opened daycare centers are located within the Mapo Prestige Xi complex in Yeomni-dong. The ‘Sandeul Daycare Center’ in Complex 1 is a two-story building with a total floor area of 546㎡, capable of caring for 65 infants and toddlers aged 0 to 5 years. The ‘Haedeul Daycare Center’ in Complex 2 is a single-story building with a total floor area of 201㎡, capable of caring for 30 infants and toddlers aged 0 to 2 years.

Both daycare centers will provide the best childcare services by thoroughly implementing quarantine measures from the day of opening.

Since 2016, the district has been striving to expand national and public daycare centers to meet parents’ demand for public childcare. As a result, the number of national and public daycare centers has nearly doubled from 46 in 2016 to 80 currently.

The district plans to expand a total of eight national and public daycare centers this year, focusing all efforts on creating a safe and happy childcare environment where parents can entrust their children with peace of mind.

Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun of Mapo-gu said, “In the era of an increasingly severe population cliff, we will continue to expand national and public daycare centers to overcome low birth rates and create an environment conducive to having and raising children. Additionally, we will work to improve existing aging daycare centers into more pleasant childcare environments through renovation and functional enhancement projects.”
