Jeongeup-si Holds 'Population Policy Sectoral Meeting'
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk recently held a ‘Sectoral Population Policy Meeting’ at City Hall on the 1st to recognize the problems of population decline such as low birthrate, aging, and population outflow, and to overcome the population crisis situation.
The city promoted the meeting to respond to the rapidly progressing population decline as the most basic administrative unit guaranteeing Jeongeup’s future.
In particular, in response to the government’s 4th Basic Plan for Low Birthrate and Aging Society (2021?2025), the meeting aimed to present population policy directions suitable for the region and to discover customized policy tasks.
This meeting was held as part of the Jeongeup City population policy establishment research project initiated in March, in the form of a free discussion between the implementing agency, Jeonbuk Research Institute, and city officials who are actually promoting the policies.
The meeting was divided into four major sectors: improvement of residential conditions, response to low birthrate, youth job policy, and return-to-farming and return-to-village policies.
Participants analyzed the current status, achievements, strengths, and weaknesses of policies being promoted in each sector, and discussed policy directions, expansion plans, and the discovery of new population policies.
Based on the meeting results, the city plans to thoroughly analyze ongoing projects to slow down the speed of population decline and to develop policies for stable regional settlement.
It will also focus on discovering policies that enable youth, the future growth engine, to settle in the region.
The city plans to conduct a citizen survey for performance analysis of population policies within this month and hold a report meeting to analyze Jeongeup’s population characteristics and suggest directions for sectoral population policy development.
