Gwangyang City, Recruiting Sponsors for 'Didim Seed Bank'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City, Jeonnam, announced on the 1st that it is recruiting sponsors for the ‘Didim Seed Bank,’ which supports stable independence when socially advancing children from vulnerable groups.
The Didim Seed Bank is a system where children who open an account can save money with the help of guardians or sponsors, and the government and local governments provide a 1:1 matching support for savings up to 50,000 KRW per month.
The support targets children under 18 years old who are protected in child welfare facilities, foster care children, children in facilities for the disabled, and children from basic livelihood security households.
For children from basic livelihood security households, matching support is provided during a certain age range from 12 to 17 years old.
The accumulated funds can be received after turning 18 for purposes such as tuition, acquiring technical qualifications, employment training, start-up support, and housing preparation for independence. If there is no reason for independence, payment can be requested after passing the age of 24.
Sponsorship can be chosen between regular sponsorship and one-time sponsorship, and sponsors can designate a child or support children recommended by local governments.
