Hampyeong-gun Reports No Additional COVID-19 Cases Since the 27th
Full Staff Testing and Closure of Multi-Use Facilities: Swift Proactive Measures Prove Highly Effective
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong-gun, which was experiencing a cluster chain infection trend of COVID-19, is showing signs of quickly stabilizing due to the prompt response of the county's quarantine authorities.
Hampyeong-gun is making every effort to prevent further spread of COVID-19 as confirmed cases have surged recently.
According to the county on the 31st, amid a situation where many local infection cases originated mainly from visitors to hospitals and clinics, Hampyeong-gun swiftly implemented facility closures and proactive testing, resulting in zero confirmed cases since the 27th.
In Hampyeong-gun, there were a total of 15 confirmed COVID-19 cases over five days: 2 on the 23rd, 1 on the 24th, 3 on the 25th, 7 on the 26th, and 2 on the 27th.
In response, the county conducted epidemiological investigations to trace movements, placed contacts of confirmed cases under self-quarantine, and held a special countermeasure meeting chaired by the county governor on the 26th. They decided to temporarily close the Hampyeong 5-day Market and conducted comprehensive testing of residents in Hampyeong-eup and Sonbul-myeon who had contact, successfully preventing further spread.
Earlier, to identify hidden infections and block early community transmission, the county conducted proactive COVID-19 testing on hospital and clinic visitors, business owners, church affiliates, and residents of three villages in Hampyeong-eup (Hampyeong-ri, Gigak-ri, Naegyo-ri), finding 2 additional confirmed cases out of 5,056 tests.
After the additional confirmed cases, the county's quarantine authorities conducted 3,879 proactive tests on residents of Hampyeong-eup and Sonbul-myeon, with no further confirmed cases since the 27th.
As COVID-19 spread within the area, proactive comprehensive testing was also conducted on county office employees, all of whom tested negative.
In this regard, 220 close contacts of confirmed cases have entered self-quarantine, and the county assigns a dedicated public official to each quarantined individual for individual management via phone or app three times a day.
Simultaneously, county officials conduct on-site visits twice a week to the residences of those in self-quarantine.
Amid rising anxiety over virus spread, the county has implemented social distancing level 2 measures, including banning private gatherings of five or more people and limiting religious activities to 20% seating capacity, strengthening quarantine measures until the 13th of next month.
County Governor Lee Sang-ik stated, “The county's quarantine authorities are leading efforts to prevent further spread through contact tracing, proactive testing, and facility disinfection,” and urged, “We ask all residents to participate in vaccination and actively cooperate by reducing visits to other regions and external contacts.”

Meanwhile, since the first confirmed COVID-19 case in Korea in January last year, Hampyeong-gun has recorded a total of 44 confirmed cases, 899 individuals in self-quarantine, and conducted over 38,400 proactive tests through screening clinics as of this day.
