Police Summon Lee Yong-gu on Charges of Evidence Tampering (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The police investigating the assault incident involving Vice Minister of Justice Lee Yong-gu and allegations of a botched investigation summoned the vice minister on the 30th.
The Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that they summoned Vice Minister Lee for questioning on the morning of the same day.
It is known that after the assault incident occurred, Vice Minister Lee contacted the victim, a taxi driver, attempting to reach a settlement and requested the deletion of the video. The police are expected to investigate charges including obstruction of justice after the incident.

About three weeks before being appointed as Vice Minister of Justice, on November 6 of last year, Lee was reported to the police for assaulting a taxi driver by grabbing the driver's collar after arriving in front of his residence in Seocho-gu while intoxicated. The police closed the case without formally charging Lee, citing that the victim did not wish to press charges.
