Event Held Ahead of 2021 P4G Seoul Green Future Summit...Expressing Commitment to Carbon Neutrality to the International Community
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 29th, President Moon Jae-in attended the launch ceremony of the '2050 Carbon Neutrality Committee' and expressed South Korea's intention to actively participate in global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This event also carried the meaning of declaring the commitment to carbon neutrality to the international community ahead of the '2021 P4G Seoul Green Future Summit.'
The Blue House announced that "President Moon attended the launch ceremony of the ‘2050 Carbon Neutrality Committee’ held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul at 2 p.m."
The launch ceremony held ahead of the 2021 P4G Seoul Green Future Summit, which opens on the 30th, was attended by co-chairs (Prime Minister, private sector chair), ex officio government members (18 people), and private members appointed to represent various sectors (77 people).
The Blue House explained, "The committee was established directly under the president as the highest control tower to lead a major transformation in all areas of our economy and society over the next 30 years to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050," adding, "It will play a central role in reviewing and coordinating major national policies for the transition to a carbon-neutral society."
The committee is responsible for reviewing and coordinating national policies on various areas and issues such as climate change response, energy innovation, economic and industrial ecosystem innovation, green lifestyle practices, fair and inclusive transition, scientific and technological innovation, international cooperation, and public participation and communication. The Blue House explained that its composition and role are more comprehensive and inclusive than any other committee.
Meanwhile, the appointment certificates delivered to the committee members were created by upcycling artist Jung Hyun-chul, who communicates with the world using discarded cardboard boxes.
