Suncheon City Expands Certification for 100% Domestic Ingredients 'Korean Kimchi Voluntary Labeling System'
Encouraging the Use of Trusted Domestic Kimchi
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 28th that it will expand the certification of the ‘Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling System,’ which verifies the use of domestically produced kimchi, targeting restaurants, schools, hospitals, and daycare center meal facilities.
The ‘Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling System’ is a system where the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling Committee certifies restaurants and meal facilities that either use kimchi supplied from manufacturers producing kimchi made with 100% domestic ingredients or make kimchi themselves using 100% domestic ingredients.
The city plans to investigate restaurants, hospitals, schools, and kimchi manufacturers to promote certification for 800 places under the Domestic Kimchi Voluntary Labeling System to prevent cheap imported kimchi from being disguised and sold as domestic kimchi and to encourage the consumption of Jeollanam-do kimchi, which is of the world’s highest quality.
Restaurants, institutions, and companies wishing to be certified can submit a domestic kimchi supply sales contract or purchase details of kimchi ingredients to the certification body through the city’s Agricultural Food Distribution Division.
Certified restaurants and companies will be issued certification marks so that consumers can easily verify them.
The certification period is one year, and follow-up management such as annual inspections of domestic kimchi usage and recertification will be conducted.
